Scottish Highlands

Etive Triple Drop Boof
At the end of October I spent a week in Scotland staying at Roy Bridge with the Kingfisher Canoe Club, we paddled great rivers such as the Etive, Allt a' Chaorainn, Orchy, Alt Kinglas, Nevis, Moriston, Kiach Nish & Pattack. An interesting trip which consisted of great rivers, great company, great mountain biking and also 2 dislocated shoulders, oh and a 20ft waterfall in the dark!

Also I tried out the new Kokotat Tempest pants which I thought were brilliant!

Aberglaslyn Gorge

On a visit to Aberystwyth Uni we headed up to the Aberglaslyn early one morning to run the classic grade 4 gorge! The runs only a mile long but gives you no time to warm up and is incredibly continuous  However no shuttles are needed and you just walk up the road and do the run again!

Three Peaks Bike & Hike

This summer myself, Danny Kinchin & Harry Boulter completed the Three Peaks Bike & Hike over 10 days in August. We cycled 522 miles and ascended over 11000ft by foot. Although it rained on 9/10 days and the 60mph winds on Scafell Pike we still enjoyed the challenge and it was great to be supported by the King Alfred Educational Trust. Many thanks to those who sponsored us and we raised about £1500 for Helen and Douglas House and there is more still to collect!

Cycling Through The Night!

In preparation for out three peaks bike & hike challenge in the summer; I set of 1.45am on the morning of Monday 4th June, to cycle to Portsmouth. This is crazy? That's what we were thinking stood on my friends doorstep at 2am, saying come on lets cycle to Portsmouth in the pouring rain and in the middle of the night?! Anyhow, we did it; the three of us cycled 75 miles arriving in Portsmouth in the early morning after spending many hours cycling and over an hour in Mc Donald's in Winchester trying to get warm! We spent the most of the day sleeping in Portsmouth, then went into town and went to the cinema, had a Nando's and watched the sunset like nothing had gone on the night before! We then stayed in a Travelodge and woke at 6am to cycle home again. After two days and approximately 150 miles of cycling we think it was a successful training ride!

Too much water!

Had high hopes of hitting Hurley on a 3 last week, but unfortunately after months of no water there was suddenly too much and Hurley was in the metal stantions! So we hit Mapledurham weir which funnily enough was to low! However there was a small play wave and a nice sunset to top off a good evening. Hoping to hit Hurley this week.
Enjoy the photos I took.

Cheers

The Olympic Whitewater Course
A couple of weekends ago we headed over to the Lee Valley Olympic Whitewater centre just north of London. This will be the venue for the 2012 canoe slalom and also the 2015 World Champs. We spent an hour on the grade 2/3 Legacy Loop and then we headed onto the grade 4 Olympic course in the afternoon. I spent a further hour after that with the camera, here are some shots from the day.
Enjoy

Isle Of Wight

A week spent in a mainly sunny Isle Of Wight. Although the week consisted of AS Geography feildwork we still got to see most of the island. This attracted us to the Island, so hopefully before the summer ride we will ride around the Island on a training day. The picture shows the glorious weather we had on the Island!  Update on a trip to the Olympic Kayaking course to come.

Waiting For The Water

Waiting for the water -

Cycling

Cycled 85 miles in total in the half term mainly due to the lack of water to go kayaking and the need to train for the Three Peaks Bike & Hike that i'm doing in the summer. Check out these really bad photos but it shows an overboard kayak deck bag now made multifunctional on my pannier rack and as a completely waterproof pannier liner. Using my kayaking kit to go cycling, withdrawal symptoms from kayaking.
Enjoy a little videos attached and there should be some more updates when the water rises or there will be much more cycling and running!
Cheers

White Water Symposium
River Dart
28/29th January 2012.

Set up to a very low river dart this weekend as part of the white water symposium weekend. Paddled a low upper Dart twice on Saturday and attended a photo and video course on the Sunday. To great runs on Saturday apart from it being a level far below the slab! One run in 1hr 2 mins. Nailing a very rocky Surprise Surprise! Photography course organised by Canoe & Kayak UK was great on the Sunday, learning how to gain more from your SLR. and video cameras. Alot learnt and a chance to use some great kit!
Great weekend, looking forward to returning next year!
